Chief of the Department
Charles Cavarra

Chief Cavarra has been a member of the Garden City Fire Department since 1988. During Chief Cavarra’s time in the fire department, he has been assigned to Truck Company, served several years as Company Captain and several years as Company Lieutenant. In 2003 he was awarded Fireman of the Year. Chief Cavarra is a department trainer on Ladder Tower 147 and is qualified on the Heavy Rescue Apparatus, the Engine Apparatus as well as both department ladder trucks. He has been certified by New York State in topics including: Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials and Aerial Equipment Operations, as well as on the Federal level by completing classes including NIMS (National Incident Management System) ICS – 300 Intermediate Incident Command System and NIMS for the Fire Service. Chief Cavarra has completed courses in Vehicle Extrication, Vehicle Fires, LIRR Safety Awareness & Emergency Response, Liquid Propane Gas Operations, Hazardous Materials DeContamination, Ropes 1, Natural Gas Emergency Response and various other courses given by the Nassau Fire Service Academy.

1st Assistant Chief
CWilliam Castoro

Chief Castoro has been a member of the Garden City Fire Department since 1994. During Chief Castoro’s time in the fire department, he has been assigned to Fire Rescue Company, served 3 years as Company Captain and 2 years as Company Lieutenant. In 2002 he was awarded Fireman of the Year. Chief Castoro has been awarded a unit citation for a house fire in 1995 and a unit citation for a building collapse in 1998. Chief Castoro is the department trainer on the Holmatro Extrication Equipment and is qualified on the Heavy Rescue Apparatus. He has been certified by New York State in topics including: Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials & Incident Safety Officer as well as on the Federal level by completing classes including NIMS (National Incident Management System) ICS – 300 Intermediate Incident Command System and ICS 400 - Advanced Incident Command System. Chief Castoro also attends on a yearly basis a comprehensive hands on stabilization, lifting and extrication program given in Elmira, New York. Chief Castoro has completed courses in Vehicle Extrication, Building Construction, Rapid Intervention, Firefighter Safety Train-the-Trainer, Roco Rescue 1 – Basic Confined Space Rescue, Ropes 1, Carbon Monoxide, Vehicle Fires, LIRR Safety Awareness & Emergency Response, and various other courses given by the Nassau Fire Service Academy. Chief Castoro also attended the Rockland Fire Academy where he was certified on the Gemtor Fire Service Harness that is currently worn by every Structural Firefighter in the Garden City Fire Department. Chief Castoro is one of the department trainers on the new firefighter bailout systems that are required by NYS Law..

2nd Assistant Chief
Joseph Nadolny

Joseph R. Nadolny joined the Garden City Volunteer Fire Department in August of 1995 after serving three and a half years in the Junior Firefighter Program. During his tenure, he has served as Lieutenant of Fire-Rescue Company, and was elected three terms as Captain of Fire Rescue Company. In 2005 Joe was named Fireman of the Year. Assistant Chief Nadolny is a third generation firefighter, both his father & grand-father are Ex-Chief’s of the Hempstead Fire Department. In addition to serving his company as a line officer, Joe has served on a number of different GCVFD committees including: Uniform, Scholarship, Training and Vehicle Extrication Committees as well as Lead Advisor of the Junior Firefighter Program. In addition to being a CPR/First Aid/ AED instructor with the National Safety Council, Joe has completed numerous firematic and management courses. He has been certified New York State in topics including: Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials & Aerial Equipment Operations as well as on the Federal level by completing classes including NIMS (National Incident Management System) ICS – 300 Intermediate Incident Command System and ICS 400 - Advanced Incident Command System. Chief Nadolny currently serves as the Fire Service Sector Chief on the Long Island Infragard Members Alliance

3rd Assistant Chief
CBrian Gallo

Chief Gallo has been a member of the Garden City Fire Department since 1991. Chief Gallo for his first 10 years was assigned to Chemical Company where he served 2 years as Lieutenant and one year as Captain. In 2001 he transfered to Truck company. Chief Gallo is department trainer of Ladder Tower Apparatus 147. Some of Chief Gallo's certifications also include NCFSA Ropes Certified, NYS Extrication Certified, Fire Service Methods of Instruction Certified, NYS Aerial Operations Certified, NIMS-IS 100,200,300,400,700, 800 Certified, NYS Certified Motor Pump Operator, NCFSA Certified Incident Safety Officer, FEMA Nationaly Certified Hazardous Materials Technician,Hazardous Materials Operations, Trench Rescue Awareness and Water Rescue Awareness..
